Understanding the Challenge

Kenmare Farm, a dairy operation in Balmoral, was looking to better manage water usage during milking and improve pasture performance through smarter irrigation. Like many farms across New Zealand, they needed more than just sensors—they needed support, clarity, and real insight into how the data could work for them.

We started by identifying three paddocks for installing soil moisture sensors, giving the farm real-time visibility into soil conditions. We also equipped their existing water meter with a sensor that tracked usage every time the cows were milked.

But technology alone isn’t the solution.

Over the next few months, we worked closely with the farm manager to:

• Interpret sensor data and turn it into practical actions

• Provide tailored irrigation recommendations

• Answer questions, troubleshoot, and guide them step by step
